First Desk is a work table constructed entirely from solid aluminum plates. Each surface is made from “as-found” material, with rectangular plates preserved in their extruded dimensions and the edges left raw to reveal the directness of the material.
The desk is assembled with exposed nuts and bolts, expressing the logic of its construction while allowing it to be disassembled and shipped flat. Two aluminum shelves beneath the surface provide storage for laptops and daily tools, keeping the tabletop clear. Two cable ports are integrated into the surface to help organize cords and maintain order.
Measuring 40 by 72 inches, First Desk rests on concealed casters, making it easy to move despite its 300-pound weight. Its neutral tones and reflective surface are meant to serve as a background for the work to shine.
